World-class research supports the cluster’s strategic focus areas. Fiber Optic Valley is an arena for collaboration between Mid Sweden University, Acreo, University of Gävle and the Royal Institute of Technology. During the latest three years the interaction between these actors has been strengthened considerably.
Fiber Optic Valley has a role as catalyst for research with the ICT area and offers different support functions for developing co-operation between the industry and academic institutions. Theinputs are directed at the existing areas of strength in the universities concerned. The vision is for top quality research to attract companies and investments to the region.
The existence of laboratories and test beds enhances the attractive power of the cluster and serves to bring in both small and large companies. This increases the network’s status and value correspondingly. The test beds offer a common platform where system suppliers, operators, service developers, innovators and researchers can work together, further developing and testing their products and Services in an environment that simulates real conditions.
Fiber Optic Valley Labs, established in 2009, is a national pre-incubator within the fiber optic area with the aim to facilitate the development and commercialization of products and services.’
